First WWHA Awards Program
The first WWHA Round-up was a huge success in Tulsa, OK, July 16-19, 2008. Site of the Round-up was the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
The first Awards Program recognized the accomplishments of those who have contributed to the Best in Western History writing, and other activities. We are happy to recognize the following winners.

Ida Saunders, Karen Tanner, John Tanner, Chuck Parsons, Cory Recko, Sharon Cunningham for Robin Andrews, and Bob DeArment
The President's Silver Star Award: This award was presented to Ida Saunders and Karen Holliday Tanner for their leadership as NOLA and WOLA representatives respectively in working for the merger of these two organizations into the new Wild West History Association. Bob McCubbin, President, acknowledged their strong leadership and the work of delegates of both NOLA and WOLA in establishing the WWHA.
The WWHA Award for Best Article: This award was given to Robin L. Andrews of Sparks, NV for her outstanding article titled "Belle of Tombstone" published in Wild West Magazine in July, 2007. Robin's great-great grandmother, Belle Crowley Le Van was the subject of this article, a must read for anyone interested in people and events in Tombstone, AZ Territory.
The WWHA Award for Best Book: This award went to Corey Recko of Lakewood, OH for his excellent new book on a lingering mystery in New Mexico. The book, titled "Murder on the White Sands: The Disappearance of Albert and Henry Fountain," published by the University of North Texas Press in 2007. This book explores new information on this long standing murder mystery.
The WWHA Award for Life Time Achievement: This prestigious award was given to John D. Tanner, Jr. for his achievements in researching and documenting the historical events of the late 19th century West.
John has published five books and numerous articles and pamphlets about this era.
NOLA Hall of Fame Awards: In addition to the WWHA Awards, the last four winners of the NOLA Hall of Fame were honored with plaques. These individuals were Chuck Parsons, Robert DeArment, Leon Metz and Harold Edwards.
