WWHA Research/Writing Grant Committee Announces Phillip W. Steele Scholarship for 2009 5/7/2009

The WWHA Research / Writing Grant Committee has announced a scholarship to be awarded at the annual WWHA Roundup in San Antonio, Texas in July. WWHA scholarships are designed to provide financial assistance to western history enthusiasts toward pursuing new research and subsequent writings concerning characters and incidents in keeping with the WWHA Focus & Goals.

Thanks to the generosity of Charlotte Steele, a scholarship has been established in memory Phillip W. Steele past president of NOLA who also sponsored a successful NOLA Rendezvous. The 2009 Steele Scholarship will provide $500 toward the research and writing of the successful applicant. Any member of the WWHA is eligible to apply for a Research / Writing Grant. Applicants at the undergraduate, graduate or adult research level currently not members of the WWHA may become members by making payment of $45 for the initial year to Karen Holliday Tanner, WWHA Treasurer, P. O. Box 608, Fallbrook, CA 92088.

Grant applications may be obtained on or after May 1 by emailing Ed Kirby, WWHA Grant Committee Chair at sundance100@sbcglobal.net.

The WWHA Grant Chairman must receive completed applications, and the required additional applicant information, no later than July 9. Announcement regarding successful applicants of WWHA Research / Writing Grants will be made at the annual Roundup in July. The written document developed through the research of the grantee is expected to prove to be worthy of publication. The WWHA reserves the right of first refusal for publication in the "WWHA Journal." The grantee is entitled to apply for and hold, the U. S. Copyright for the written material.

New information, research in areas not previously explored, interviews with key individuals and studies through primary sources are key areas of consideration for WWHA Research / Grant applicants.
