The Wild West History Association (WWHA) is the result of uniting in 2008 the two great 20th century Wild West history organizations... NOLA and WOLA. WWHA is everything each of them was... and more. Members of this association indulge a love of the history and lore of the Wild West and allow members the opportunity to share what we know, to learn from one another and to enjoy the fellowship of those with similar interests. When WWHA members get together, there is no lull in the conversation!

| Texas Ranger L.R. Hughes Receives Ranger Cross |

Memorial Day 2010 was a fitting day for the dedication of a Texas Ranger cross at the grave of L.R. Hughes, a member of Company E of the Frontier Battalion. Lorenzo R. "Lowe" Hughes was an Alabama native who joined the command of Lt. N.O. Reynolds as a private in 1878. He had achieved the rank of corporal when receiving his honorable discharge on August 31, 1880. He chose love over duty as he married young Elizabeth Belle Mason shortly thereafter. Sadly the twenty-eight-year-old Hughes died of unknown causes on January 26, 1881 and was buried in the Bagdad Cemetery near Leander, Texas.

Several WWHA members participated in the Authorfest which recognized area authors on April 24. Members were Pat Parsons, Doug Dukes, Lisa Lach, Mike Cox and Chuck Parsons. Each spoke on their most recent publications and signed copies for fans interested in learning more.

WWHA Board member Jim Dunham was not only a "talking head" on the PBS American Experience "Wyatt Earp" program, he was one of the firemarms handlers who helped safely and creatively construct the artistic and historical shooting scenes.
